Tactical Operations and SRT Training Fundamentals Practice Test

In a vehicle assault operation, three essential components work together to make the entry possible and sustainable: the assault, the cover, and the support. The assault element is the team that leads the breach and moves into the target, driving through resistance to accomplish the objective. The cover element provides protection and suppression as the team closes in—giving them a protected corridor, controlling the line of fire, and reducing exposure to threats during the critical approach and entry. The support element keeps the operation viable by enabling continuation and response—this includes fire support, communications, ammunition and medical care, and any necessary mobility or recovery actions to maintain tempo and react to changes.

Together, these three elements ensure the team can initiate the action, stay protected as they maneuver, and remain equipped to sustain or adapt the mission. While recon, leadership, logistics, or extraction and surveillance have important roles in broader operations, they do not constitute the three concurrent functional pillars that directly enable a vehicle-based entry the way assault, cover, and support do.
